V’ghn: The Grenadian Bad Boy Of Soca

Hailing from the ‘Island of Spice’, V’ghn is considered one of the Caribbean’s fastest-rising soca stars of today. At just 23 years old, this young star has already taken the soca industry by storm. From his powerful and harmonious vocal range to his commanding stage presence and energetic performances, his strong and lyrical songwriting ability, overall charming demeanor and infectious personality; it’s very clear why his name is quickly becoming synonymous with stardom and he calls himself ‘The Grenadian Bad Boy’.

So, who exactly is V’ghn? Jevaughn John who goes by the stage name ‘V’ghn’ (previously Lil Vaugh), discovered his love for music and entertainment at the tender age of 11 years old like most when he started singing in the church choir and participating in talent shows.

Realizing his talent, he decided that he wanted to seriously pursue a career in soca music. This led him in 2013, at the age of 16 years old to enter the ‘Grenada Spice Mas National Soca Monarch Competition’ with his first ever single ‘Charge Up’, placing 3rd and making him the youngest soca artiste to ever place in the top (3) positions in a Caribbean Soca Monarch Competition.

As the years progressed, he continued to exceed the expectations of many with his commitment, hard work and dedication to perfecting his craft and growing as an artiste. In June 2018, he released his hit single ‘Trouble in the Morning’ on the Morning after Riddim, which propelled him even further into the spotlight as many claimed it to be his breakout single. The success of the single earned V’ghn the 2nd place title in the 2018 Grenada Groovy Soca Monarch and the 3rd place title in the 2019 International Groovy Soca Monarch. He was also featured in some of Trinidad and Tobago biggest Carnival events such as Machel Monday, Army Fete and performed in many countries throughout the Caribbean, the USA and even the UK.

Though his genre of choice is soca music, his musical range goes far beyond that. If you listen closely you can hear a lot of R&B and other fusion of music in many of his songs. Many have also commended his live vocal skills whenever he performs, clearly demonstrating that he definitely got the voice. Another noteworthy asset he has showcased over the years is his songwriting skills. This year he was responsible for penning the hit soca track ‘Gyal Owner’ performed by Trinidadian Soca Veteran, Blaxx.

We at Caribbean Entertainment Hub, will like to congratulate V’ghn on all his accomplishments including his recent victory in Grenada’s 2019 Groovy Soca Monarch competition and wish him all the best as he continues to make Grenada and the Caribbean proud.
