Sunshine Promotions Partners With Digicel To Bring A Cyber Monarch

SUNSHINE PROMOTIONS PARTNERS WITH DIGICEL TO BRING A CYBER MONARCH
PAY PER VIEW GROOVY AND POWER SOCA EVENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
St. George’s, Grenada – July, 08, 2020: Grenadian-based entertainment company, Sunshine Promotions and telecommunications giant Digicel will partner to stage a pay per view soca event that promises to be a thought-provoking virtual experience for viewers and an income generator for Grenadian performers following the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The Cyber Monarch event scheduled for Friday, August 7 will feature nine Grenadian soca champs performing one groovy and one power soca song each, in two rounds of competition, as they vie for XCD 75,000 in cash prizes. The pay per view event, that was fashioned after the national soca monarch competition, will be streamed live from the Grenada National Cricket Stadium and will be powered by Judah Sound System.
Sunshine Promotions founder, Ian St. Bernard, shared that his motivation for undertaking such a massive production was incited by the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the local and regional entertainment industry but more specifically its effects on the livelihood of Grenadian artistes whose primary income stream is dependent on live performances.
“The international and regional cancellation of carnivals due to the coronavirus has undoubtedly left a void in Grenada’s cultural exports as well as the pockets of local entertainers and service providers in the live music industry,” St. Bernard shared. “We must be innovative and adapt to our present environment especially since the live music industry is not projected to bounce back until 2022, according to early projection,” he continued.
Through reaching out to corporate Grenada for its support, telecommunications giant Digicel enthusiastically answered the call to partner in ensuring that Grenadian entertainers and other related creatives will be able to gainfully benefit from this event in a way that is reflective of the pre-COVID period.
Shrivon Redhead, Chief Executive Officer, Digicel (Grenada) shared the company’s willingness to support such an initiative as it doubles to give local artistes an outlet for creative expression while also proposing a feasible business model for industry promoters.
“As a leading brand, it is important that we partner with strong messages and strong teams such as Sunshine Promotions. Judah has always been a pillar in terms of cultural support whether it is to the entertainers in general or the country as a whole and we at Digicel are proud to align ourselves with that. Additionally, with the absence of the official carnival events, Digicel welcomes new ways to help creatives thrive,” shared Redhead.
Sunshine Promotions has already selected the nine Grenadian artistes that will partake in the event based on their prominence at the parish and national levels. The promotion company was forced to forgo a preliminary round of competition due to the limited time span in the lead into the event. However, with the anticipated success of Cyber Monarch, the promotion company looks forward to staging future events for the benefit of more of Grenada’s entertainers. Other corporate partners of Cyber Monarch include the Grenada Distillers Limited and the Grenada Co-operative Bank.
