Grenada Under Tropical Storm Warning – NaDMA Press Release (6:12pm)

GRENADA UNDER TROPICAL STORM WARNING
St. George’s, Grenada – Monday 17th July, 2017.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) continues to monitor the weather with the technical assistance of the Meteorological Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport.
At the 5pm; Tropical Storm Don was formed, and located NEAR 11.2N, 52.6W, about 595 miles east of Trinidad.
The system is presently moving TOWARD THE WEST OR 275 DEGREES AT 17mph and a gradual increase in forward speed is expected. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts.
As such there is a Tropical Storm Warning for Grenada and its dependencies. A tropical storm Warning means that storm-like conditions can affect the geographic space within 36 hours.
Grenada and its dependencies can expect 50 to 125mm of rainfall beginning Tuesday afternoon.
Street/flash flooding is likely in areas of heavy showers and thundershowers. There is a high possibility of landslides /landslips. Sea conditions are also anticipated to become very agitated which will adversely affect marine and coastline interests. Warnings for landslides, flooding and hazardous sea conditions would be in effect on Tuesday.
NaDMA takes this opportunity to remind us all that we should continue to be prepared at all times for all emergencies. Also, it is a good time to ensure that all drains and water ways around your property are cleared from all obstructions and that you have in place your hurricane plan and preparedness kit.
The Agency in collaboration with the Meteorological Services will continue to monitor this Tropical System and will update the public as necessary.
